It is important to maintain your lawn well if you want a tight green turf in your garden. In this article we have listed all the work involved in this for you.

Aerate
A hard top layer often forms on a lawn that consists of moss, weeds and grass particles that remain after mowing. By scarifying your lawn you remove this top layer, so that the grass gets more air and can grow better. It is best to scarify a lawn twice a year, in the spring and in the autumn.

Sprinkle lime
For the optimal absorption of nutrients by a lawn, the correct acidity of the soil is important. Most soil in the Netherlands is too acidic, and by sprinkling lime on your lawn you can lower the acidity.

fertilize
You can provide your lawn with extra nutrients by fertilizing it. This will allow the grass to grow better and you will also have less problems with moss and weeds in your lawn. In addition, the grass is more resistant to extreme weather conditions such as long droughts or severe cold. In general, it is recommended to fertilize your lawn 3 times a year, in spring, summer and autumn. Keep in mind that it is better not to do fertilizing and spreading lime at the same time, make sure there is about two weeks in between.

reseed
Scarifying or when a lawn is used intensively by, for example, playing children or pets, can cause bald spots. That is of course not a sight, and the solution to this problem is to sow grass. Make sure that you use the same type of grass for sowing, because otherwise you will get ugly color differences in your lawn.

Mowing
If you want a nice neat lawn, you will have to mow it regularly. In the spring, the grass starts to grow again, so you can get the lawnmower out again. By mowing regularly, your lawn not only looks nice and neat, it also gives weeds much less chance to arise. It is recommended to mow the lawn at least once a week for the best results.

Spraying
Grass needs sufficient water to grow well. In the summer it is therefore also a good idea to provide your lawn with some extra water by spraying, especially in dry periods that last longer. Do you have a new lawn? Then this is extra important to ensure that the young grass does not dry out.
